I made it quite deep into the 8:15ET HORSE Tourney on FullTilt last night. As usual, I never got the commanding chip stack and was usually at or below average. I held on for dear life a few times, but without the stats in front of me, I'd have to say that I did extremely well when I did take a hand deep. I played very good, patient poker, really only getting my money in bad one time when a guy made two pair in stud. He had (T6)T6 to start...I had (AA)2, but my final board came (AA)234x(5) for the wheel, and he never improved off his two pair. Of course, donktard took the opportunity to type that I "always suck out on him". First, I don't ever recall playing against him before. Second, I checked the hand history, and that was the one and only hand I contested with him to that point. Third, he would return the favor on me later on.
I made it past the third break, and when we restarted, it was Razz. Didn't play a single hand and the antes started eating away with me. When we flipped to Stud Hi, I was dealt (JJ)8, completed it and got one caller. 4th street missed me, but I continued and he raised with two diamonds showing. Hmmmmm. I call. 5th street misses again. I check and he insta-bets. I think, fold, and then smile when he flips over an A-high flush. Got away about as cheaply as I could, but with levels this high (1500/3000 or so), this hurt.
Then a few hands later, I have split 8s. The bring-in is to my left, and it folds around to the (X X)A to my right who naturally completes it. I go in the tank and decide to make a move at it by completing. He just calls, so I figure he's not paired up. 4th street misses me, but I reraise him and go all-in.
djm182 shows [8d Jh 8h 3c] << just about a 2:1 favorite here.
SylverLeaf shows [5d Ks As Qh]
Of course, he pairs his Q on 5th and pairs his K on 6th. I also made two pair, but 7th street missed me and I went out in 12th overall out of 150 runners. Not bad. Also not the payday I've been seeking.
The final hand history is here:

Dienst
Jonathan Dienst, now a reporter for the NBC affiliate in NYC, was the voice of Colgate hockey during my early days on campus. It became the saying around our dorm that "to Dienst" was "to screw up", as he was noticeably poor at play-by-play - even for a crack college radio station. It should be noted that he was also a complete prick to my roommate and I when we auditioned to call Colgate basketball games. We never really had a chance anyway - we had either the wrong greek letters on our shirts or no greek letters.
Well anyway, Dienst sure screwed up the Mitchell Report reporting. This is about as surprising at Clemens being featured in the report itself. I'm glad to see both these arrogant assholes get what came to them.

Steroids and Records
Everyone is up in arms after the Mitchell Report, and I can understand this. But people keep scratching their heads about why steroid/PED use in Baseball is more of a media issue than it is in Football, where Pro Bowl caliber players like Rodney Harrison and Shawne Merriman have been caught and suspended within the past year-plus.
It's simple. How many tackles did Harrison have last year? How close is he to the NFL record for interceptions or tackles? What about Merriman? And what are the hallowed records they are chasing? Of course you don't know this - not without looking it up. But we know all about records and milestones in baseball. 755/763 Home Runs. A .300 batting average. 300 wins. 100 RBI. 56 games. Every user in baseball can have his place in history called into question because we know the significance of the numbers. It's what makes baseball so great and what makes the presence of PEDs there so eye-catching.

Michigan Snow
Before the snowfall eased up Sunday night, 10.5 inches had fallen in Michigan's Ann Arbor, and a similar amount in Jackson County, the National Weather Service said."It's winter," said Ann Arbor resident Linda Thelen, 53, as she and her husband dug out their home. "I expect a couple of these each year."
Oh STFU. I lived there for five years. I can count on one *finger* the number of significant snow falls the region had.
Everybody in SE Michigan thinks they get the worst winter weather and they're full of shit on all but one point - it's cloudy there from November through April - at least when the lakes haven't frozen - making the area more dismal than it already is. But they do NOT get an excess amount of snow - they're just completely incapable of handling it, as the local and city governments are broke and/or corrupt.
The one big snowstorm I remember was in the winter of 98-99. We got about a foot of snow - the kind of storm that here in beautiful upstate NY may cause the schools to shut for a day or open late. It closed some Detroit city schools for two weeks.
Shameful. Joke. Michigan.
PS. Congratulations on getting your third choice to coach the fighting maize & blue ground rodents.

LoDuca Signs with Nats
...and fires a shot across the bow at the Mets.
Well Paul, Fuck You. You don't suppose the Mets didn't want to resign you for any of these reasons, do you?
* Your 80 OPS+ in 2006
* Your 36 years of age shortly after opening day
* Your inability to throw out a runner
Thanks for your service, but your time and performance in Flushing has been horribly overrated by the knownothings. Enjoy DC. And keep your trap shut.

Urinals
How can people constantly *miss* the urinal? Half of the times I go to the mens room in the office, there's a puddle of pee on the floor in front of the urinal and I end up standing with my feet spread far apart to avoid splashing around in it.
When the big fat Chairman of the Board was still around, there was always a puddle and you *knew* it was him. He couldn't possibly see down there anyway. But how do you explain it for everyone else? There aren't that many huge "joes" around here, and unless there are some incredibly small weiners and guys who just can't reach the urinal right in front of them, I can't explain the constant puddles. Plus, wouldn't the offenders here have piss stains all down the front of their pants?
Truly a mystery to me.

Pats/Ravens
It was like watching Al Qaeda battle the Nazis (or Michigan vs. Notre Dame) ...compelling competition, but impossible to root for either side to win. And as expected, everyone involved handled themselves with class. Belichick looked like he climbed out from under a refrigerator box. Rodney Harrison taunted the other teams head coach (!). Billick, of course, taunted right back with his kissing act. Bart Scott racks up 30 yards of penalties in one play, including heaving an officials flag toward the stands. And the penalties...ooohhh the penalties. Watson was held on the one play, but that ball was thrown into double coverage and he wasn't catching it - hold or no hold. Gaffney's TD had to stand, but had it been ruled incomplete on the field, it wouldn't have been overturned. One of those plays right on the fence. Here's what nobody is talking about - the referee was completely out of position to see whether or not Gaffney had possession of the ball.

Winter Meetings
I have this feeling of anticipation/dread around Omar's forthcoming actions at the Winter Meetings this week. Kind of like the feeling you have when you're about to open up a Christmas present from someone who isn't quite in tune with what you'd like. It could be a homerun...it could be several pairs of lackluster socks.
Last week's Milledge for Church/Schneider trade was socks (Schneider) with an interesting little gift card (Church) with all sorts of decent potential thrown in. It wasn't an Eddie Bauer or Best Buy gift card - rather a Kohl's card. Some upside, but limited upside.

Worst One in a While
Ever since returning from vacation and then the trip to France, I haven't played much, but when I have played the cards have been dead and good things just aren't happening.
But this SNG was different. I won a big hand with pocket rockets, and then I woke up with them again, and doesn't this just play out perfect. For a while:

Token
I've decided to play more SNGs where top prize is a token. Tonight, my $4.40 was in search of a $26 token. Let's see what transpired.
