Winter. It sucketh. There has been snow on the ground here since before Thanksgiving. A foot more yesterday. Down near zero Fahrenheit tomorrow night. Still at least a month left before it all melts and the ground is stable enough to do things outside...like play golf.
I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to mowing the damn lawn. Or cleaning up dog crap without having to dig through snow.
The older I get...and the longer I'm stuck with two boys in the house all winter, the longer these winters seem.
Carolina, I'm coming someday soon.

CHIMPS LHE
My God am I pissed. Not at anyone, just at the damned luck.
Played uber tight, caught a couple cards when I was on the brink, and landed at the final table. Picked off a Snuffy bluff to move up to the middle of the ladder, and just waited for a couple to fall out and/or for me to catch a monster.
Well the latter sure didn't happen. In fact, the best I had all night was QQ, as well as AK a bunch of times, and I won a handful of those after uncontested preflop raises.
Lo and behold, every damned short stack who got it in either had a monster or sucked out. This must've happened a half dozen times, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna go look because I'm exhausted.
So finally it's my turn with AJs and I run into AKs. In about 2 of the next 4 hands, the money bubble bursts.
The hand I regret most is folding 99 from UTG. I think it was the right move at a full table, where there was a decent amount of preflop action, but I sure would've loved to have flopped the set i would've flopped...and I would've gotten action - something that seemed to elude me tonight when I had cards.
If you told me hours ago that I'd reach the final table of this, after all that's gone on here today, I'd be ecstatic. If you told me 10 minutes before I busted that I'd go out ninth, I'd have cried bullshit. And now I'm just crying.

Home Game Recap
Another gem of a home game.
Let's see...I never had an above average stack. Lost with 10 10 vs JJ. Lost with KcJc vs. A2 (flops a 2, rivers an A). Got in the spot pretty early where I had to wait for a good hand to come, and when it did, the flop usually missed me.
At one point I get Ah3h in the BB, check, and the flop is 3 3 8 rainbow. I bet 200 (small compared to the pot) and get two callers. Turn is garbage. I bet 400 and get two callers. The river is the fourth 3 and I have quads. So I shake my head and just check...hoping to be able to repop someone with a pocket pair who sees nothing but full boat. They both check behind. Dammit.
This was the hands down highlight. Dealt JJ. A couple of limpers. I raise it to 800 (it was 150/300) and get one caller from early position. The flop is T T x. Checked to me and I bet another 800 at it. I'm checkraised 1500 more (2300 total). He has to have a 10. Must be A 10, K10 or maybe Q 10. I think and fold and say he has to have it. He flips over
...wait for it...
Tc3c
A 2.5x raise can't chase a guy off of 10 3 from early position. I just don't know what to do. Make a reasonable bet and they stay with garbage. Make a huge bet and everyone folds and I only win blinds. The best part was when I ranted about what I needed to do to get people off their hands, he goes "but they were suited".
BTW, JJ vs T3 suited...I'm an 83/17 favorite. If his T3 is unsuited, I'm a 87/13 favorite. I guess those 4 points make all the difference. Sigh.
So finally I'm first to act. I have 1800 chips left and the blinds are 300/600...going to 500/1000 the very next hand. I'm shoving with anything, and I happen to shove w/ KQ. Two callers. I turn a Q for top pair, river a J for the A-high straight and triple up to 5400 chips. Very next hand I have 8s5s in the BB. Limped around and I check. Flop is 5-high (5 2 3) and I shove. No callers (was hoping the naked ace out there would call his flush draw. No such luck). Now I have 7000+ chips. Back in business.
Two hands later, I have K 10 from late position. A few limp in. The flop is three undercards to my holding. Checks around. Turn is a K. The same guy w/ the 10 3 from earlier bets at it. I go over the top...all-in. He thinks for about a minute. I must have him. He calls and turns over K8. No 8 on the board. Beautiful. I'm about to have about 15,000 chips and be right back in this.
River = 8. Three-outer. I go home.

Why I Love (to laugh at) The NBA
This is classic. You know the salary structures of a league are completely and totally fucked up when a schlub like this guy can block a seven-player trade. How the hell does Devean George get a no-trade clause in his contract?
This is how that discussion SHOULD have gone:
Agent: My client wants a no-trade clause
Management: BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!
Agent: (whimper)

CHIMPS Stud8
What a yo yo of an event this one was.
I took the chip lead early on by twice making flushes on 7th street - once to lock the low as well, once while starting w/ 3 to a K-high flush, then defending a pair of Qs and then hitting runner runner again to scoop. Also made a gutshot on 7th street while defending a pair of Jacks against a strong opponent who had aces up most of the way. Just lucktardily delicious. But as always...win early, lose late.
10 minutes after the break, I'm dealt [5h 3d] As, complete it and get called by Ad. After a J and a K, I fold on 6th. Lost about 240 chips here.
5 minutes later, I start with [Ad 7c] 5h, complete it, get two callers, and catch a 9. I bail.
The very next hand I start with [6c 4s] 2h, complete it, get repopped by As, and call. I catch another duck on 4th, check it and it's checked behind. On 5th I catch Kh and my opponent has a pair of sixes showing. I call his bet here, get the damned 3 on 6th street to keep me in and brick out on the river. Now I'm down to 2440 chips after 4300 to start this run.
I ante/bring-in that down below 2000 when I get [3h 2d] 5d. The three of clubs completes in front of me and I call and we're heads up. Guess what...here comes Kd and Js and now I'm down to 1500 chips.
Now with 1350 left, I complete my own bring-in with [3c 7c] 5h. I get two callers, pick up a J and a T and just eff me right in the arse already.
Down to just over 650 chips, I'm dealt [Jd Ks] [3c], bring it in and get a caller. I pick up a T, he makes a move with 8c 9c showing and I figure I've got overs to at least his up cards. I've been taking it in the can for the last hour and if he has a straight or flush draw I might as well just take it again and get this over with. I push, he has the flush draw, nails it on 6th and I crash and burn in 11th place out of 22 runners.
Man, this started off soooooooooo good.

Poetic Justice
So long Patriots. Schadenfreude galore here tonight.
What a game. What a catch!!
This has to be the greatest Super Bowl ever.
Edit: I've got perhaps the preeminent NFL historian squarely in my camp.
